Art & About Sydney
Sydney’s largest public art festival is celebrating its 12th year, with a line-up of local and international artists set to take over public spaces with playful interpretations on the theme ‘Private Lives… Public Places’.
Some of festival highlights are Snailovation, where Italian art collective Cracking Art Group unleash 24 giant (100kg!) neon snails amongst iconic buildings and public monuments; look out for them in Hyde Park, Martin Place and Customs House Square. Field is another event that will mesmerise your inner child, as New Zealand architects Out of the Dark transform Hyde Park South with a 24-metre-square maze of mirrored sculptures to befuddle the senses. Illuminated at night, the installation will feature an exraordinary maze of 81 mirrored posts.
The Sydney Life photography corridor will return to Hyde Park with 22 striking, bed-sheet-sized images portraying the landscape, community and eccentricities of Sydney life.
More than 25 other events are also in the program, from photography challenges and interactive installations to jewellery exhibitions and sculpture walks.
