Nothing has caused more of a stir at London Fashion Week than the debut of shoe designer Manolo Blahnik.. Having never shown in the English capital before, Blahnik stated that he finally accepted the invitation because he “wanted to get more in touch with normal people.”

Always a film lover, Blahnik developed a short film to highlight his inspiration for the spring/summer 2014 collection. His five-minute short, starring Rupert Everett, was inspired by the turn of the 20th century – the music, the silent movies and its beauty.

“I wanted it to have that feeling of elegance and sophistication that that period gave to the world,” he explained. “It’s about jealousy, but mainly the cultural richness that came with that time. Everyone was extreme, which I love.”

Blahnik, 70, has been making shoes for 40 years. He counts Kate Middleton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss amongst his fans.
