Equestrian Resort

Half Moon equestrian - 2With all the talk of horses this week, we thought we’d look at the Jamaican Resort Half Moon, which offers one of the finest equestrian experiences in the Caribbean.

Managed by World-famous equestrienne, Trina De Lisser, the half Moon equestrian Centre has 28 carefully selected and groomed mounts, experienced trail masters, a Polo Arena and Jumping Arena, as well as sables.

Explore the beauty and lush, tropical landscape of Half Moon on horseback as you ride through Half Moon’s Nature Reserve or along bridle paths that wind through the cool hills and valleys. Equestrians of all levels are welcome to enjoy a variety of activities, lessons and beach rides.

The resort is about to celebrate their diamond jubilee next year, but it is perhaps it’s guestbook including Joan Crawford and her husband Alfred Steel who was the wealthy CEO of Pepsi-Cola, Clark Gable, Queen Elizabeth II, John and Jackie Kennedy and George H. W. Bush, that is more interesting.

The resort sits on a pair of half-moon shaped beaches dotted with palm trees that keep a steady beat with the breeze. Today, thirty-one villas and 197 rooms and suites are individually decorated with Queen Anne-inspired furnishings and balconies or terraces that offer views of the Caribbean Sea stretching as far as the eye can see.

Those staying in the villas have full use of the resort’s amenities including seven bars, exceptional wine cellars, six restaurants including The Sugar Mill with its own sommelier, equestrian center, dolphin lagoon, Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed 18-hole championship golf course and the Fern Tree Spa with seaside suites, plunge pools and therapists who add the reputed Jamaican aphrodisiac called “ram goat dash along” to many of their massages.
