Vintage Pair of Australiana Emu Egg Kangaroo Table Garnitures
$0.00A pair of silver plate Emu egg Australian theme garnitures; each garniture consisting of a natural Emu egg crested with a small figure of an emu and capped with scalloped end caps to top and base and raised on a curved stem mounted on a triform base each with a model of a kangaroo at the extremity and raised on lion paw feet - these garnitures were commissioned by His Excellency Edward Pocock for use as formal dinner table garnitures at the Australian Embassy in Russia 1984-1987 and then used during his tenures at the Australian Embassies and High Commisions in France 1987-1991, Pakistan 1991-1992 and Belgium 1992-1997 - The Australian Embassy in Russia was not decorated with much Australian themed content and so they were introduced to provide this. As a result, they were often remarked upon and were discussion points of many of the Heads of State, diplomats and foreign dignitaries who dined at the Embassy - Emu eggs collected at Tirlta Station Broken Hill - made by Mr Kim of the Plaza Hotel Arcade in Seoul, Korea (ambassador Pocock's previous posting) - c.1985 (photos of the garnitures in situ in the Russian Embassy and Mr Kim's trade card are available with this set)
