An antique Colonial Australian 15k yellow gold garnet grape leaf locket brooch - a large oval brooch of numerous grape leaves, a bunch of grapes to the top and a bow motif to the bottom with a single flower motif set with a garnet - the centre of the brooch has a section that lifts up to reveal a purple silk lined glazed compartment - there is a similar glazed panel to the back - finished with a hinged pin and C clasp closure - pieces of this scale are extremely rare in Australian jewellery and combined with its heavier gauge construction it makes it a very fine example - unmarked - total weight 44.90grms - overall dimensions 65 x 55mm - c.1860 Australia
