$5,950.00A vintage solid silver gilt oval enamel table box or case showing a finely painted scene in the theme of the painting "Venus Disarming Cupid" by Francois Boucher. Venus reclines in clouds against a sunset, holding Cupid's quiver just out of reach while two white doves kiss at her feet. Painted over a fine oval guilloche ground the technique of using the opacity of the enamel to give the impression of light within the picture highlights the quality of this piece. The hinged lid is above plain walls and an engine turned base and opens to reveal a richly gilded interior - marked to the inside front lip for 935 silver and an unidentified makers mark - total weight 131grms - overall dimensions 98 x 75 x 16mm - c.1930 Switzerland
