A fine pair of antique Victorian cameo earrings, each earring consisting of a finely detailed carved drop shaped Conch shell cameo showing the profile of Athena below a floral motif, bezel set within an 18k yellow gold mount of a border of finely textured leaves and finished with a graduated fringe to the base. The earrings have a European hook and clip closure to ensure they are secure when worn. Typical of the 1860's and 70's these delicate and romantic earrings are truly a testimony to the skill of the craftsmen who made them - marked 750 for 18 karat gold to the hook - the mount and fringe also confirmed for 18k gold when tested by X ray spectrometry - total weight of the pair 8grms - overall dimensions 70mm total drop including hook - width 18mm - c.1870 England
